DHAKA, Oct 24, 2020 (BSS)—National cricket team head coach Russell Domingo showed his excitement over young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, stating that he saw a potentiality in the youngster.

According to him, the leg-spinner could serve Bangladesh for long if he is nursed well.

“He has shown that he has a lot of potential. Still needs to work on a couple of things, but he can be an International cricketer,” Domingo said during a virtual press conference with the media on Thursday.

Rishad Hossain took five wickets in the third first class match of his career to prove that he has immense potentiality. His performance also attracted the selectors to such an extent that they praised him a lot.

The spinner hailed from Rangpur showed a great performance against Rajshahi in the first class cricket, which earned his call to the national team camp.

Despite having experience in first-class and T20 cricket, Rishad has never played one-day cricket but thanks to the BCB President’s Cup, he finally got the taste of this format.

The leg-spinner has taken four wickets in four matches for Nazmul Hossain Shant XI. In the second and third matches, Rishad took two wickets each for Tamim XI and Mahmudullah XI.

Even though Rishad’s performance impressed Domingo, the South African coach thinks he needs to be properly cared for.

“He was very impressive in the A tour to Sri Lanka. But you have to be patient with him. Leg Spin is a very difficult art. You cannot master it within a year or two. We have to pick him against the right teams and pick him for the right conditions,” Domingo said.

“If you pick a young leg-spinner too early, he bottles against a quality batsman, you can hurt his confidence immensely. Sure, there are times when you have to front up and do it. I think management of his career is very important. He is still young, he has to be patient.”
