SYLHET, Oct 20, 2020 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen
today vowed that suspended sub-inspector (SI) Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan,
an accused in the Sylhet custody killing, would be brought to justice.

“Although suspended SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan flees away abroad, he
would be brought to justice after bringing him back home,” he told
reporters after visiting the house of Rayhan Ahmed, who was killed in
police custody recently, in the city’s Akhalia area.

During his visit, Momen expressed sympathy to the family of Rayhan.
On behalf of Abdul Momen Foundation, he also provided Taka two lakh in
cash to them.

“I do believe that Akbar is yet to left the country…because all
the borders and immigration points of the country were alerted once
the news of Rayhan’s murder became surface,” he said.

The foreign minister said even if Akbar fled away abroad, steps
would be taken to bring him back.

Earlier, he mentioned, the accused in the Rajan murder case was
brought back home from Saudi Arabia and brought him to justice.

Momen urged all to cooperate with police if there is any
information about the Rayhan killing.

“Police did not try to protect its members involved in the
incident. Our police are very efficient. They were able to arrest all
the accused of all the recent major and much-talked-about incidents,”
he said. The foreign minister said all but one of the accused in the
Rayhan murder are under police surveillance, while all the government
agencies, including the PBI, have been working to this end.

On October 12 last, a case was filed in connection with the death
of Rayhan at Bandarbazar Police Outpost in Sylhet city.

According to the case statement, Rayhan was allegedly tortured to
death by some people on October 11 in 2020.
