Postage stamp released marking birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell

DHAKA, October 18, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) today released a commemorative postage stamp and its first day cover of denomination Taka 10 each marking the 56th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar unveiled the stamp and first day cover at his secretariat office, said a ministry release.

He also released a data card worth Taka 5 and used a special canceller for all of these.

Initially, the postage stamp and first day cover will be sold at the Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO from Sunday and later it will be made available in all GPOs and principal post offices across the country. Special cancellers have been kept at four GPOs for using on the first day cover.

Russell, the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18, 1964, at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi.

He was also brutally killed on August 15, 1975 along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
