Stocks finish flat as major sectors dip

DHAKA, March 29, 2017 (BSS) – Stock markets finished the fourth session of the week on Wednesday flat as major sectors closed the session with falling trend at both the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock exchanges.

The major falling sectors were financial institutions, food and allied, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, textile and insurance. A total of 161 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.

The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the session by 4.17 points down at 5733.24. But the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES finished the session slightly up by 4.70 points up at 2099.89 and by 3.16 points up at 1300.54 respectively.

The daily turnover in volume at DSE was at 33.65 crore shares when the daily trade value was Taka 1134.88 crore. Among the traded 327 issues at DSE, 89 closed higher against 198 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were BSRM Limited, Asian Tiger, IDLC, BSRM Steel and GP. The major losing companies were Fareast Finance, Meghna Pet, Imam Button, Sonargaon Insurance and Global Insurance. City Bank topped the turnover leaders followed by Lanka Bangla Finance, AB Bank, IDLC and Beximco Pharma.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished Wednesday’s session in red, with major CASPI index closing 25.99 points down at 17,774.79. Out of the traded 260 issues, 78 advanced, 165 incurred losses and 17 remained static when 2.44 crore shares worth Taka 83.46 crore changed hands.
