Shahab Uddin for raising public awareness to protect biodiversity of St. Martin’s Island

DHAKA, Oct 15, 2020 (BSS) – Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin today underscored the need for creating public awareness to make the special programme for the development, management and conservation of biodiversity of St. Martin’s Island successful.

“The cooperation of the people is needed to make the special programme for the development, management and conservation of biodiversity of St Martin’s Island successful through the implementation of environmental management”, he said while addressing an online meeting at the ministry here to review the monthly implementation progress of the concerned ministry’s Annual Development Programme (ADP) for 2020-2021.

He said for the development, management and conservation of biodiversity, people need to be involved in all matters including planting of different species of trees like coconut, pine, kewra, keya, prevention of coral destruction of Chhera Island, also called Chhera Dwip and waste management.

Secretary for Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Ziaul Hasan, Additional Secretary (Administration) Dr. Md Billal Hossain, Additional Secretary (Environment) Mahmud Hasan, Additional Secretary (Development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Mizanul Haque Chowdhury and Director General of the Department of Environment Dr AKM Rafique were present, among others, on the occasion.
