Fish production increases significantly in country: Rezaul

DHAKA, Oct 14, 2020 (BSS) –Highlighting the importance of the Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said fish production has increased significantly in the country as the government has implemented various effective and massive programmes.

“Hilsa production has increased sharply compared to any times in the past…we are taking different steps to boost Hilsa fish,” he added.

He came up with the remarks while taking part in a water conservation campaign from Meghna Bridge Ghat in Narayanganj to Mohanpur Ghat in Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur to encourage those involving with preservation of mother Hilsa, said an official release.

He praised the fishermen who, have joined the campaign to save mother Hilsa.

“At present, more VGF has been allocated than the past so that the fishermen do not have to suffer economic hardship while conserving mother Hilsa. More will be allocated next year,” he added.

Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Raunak Mahmud, Additional Secretaries Shah Md Imdadul Haque, Shamol Chandra Karmakar, Subol Bose Moni and Md Taufiqul Arif, director general of the department of fisheries Kazi Shams Afroz and Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) director general Dr Yahia Mahmud were present , among others, on the occasion.

Later, the minister inaugurated the Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign-2020 by releasing balloons.
