Bangladesh-India hope for holding JRC meeting this year

DHAKA, Oct 13, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh and India today expressed hope for holding the much-awaited next Joint River Commission (JRC) meeting by this year to discuss about unsettled issues regarding water sharing of the transboundary rivers.

The optimism was made while newly appointed Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswami met foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen at foreign ministry here, according to a post uploaded at official facebook page of the ministry.

During the last JCC meeting both the foreign ministers of Bangladesh and India also have reviewed the possibility of holding the stalled JRC meeting between Bangladesh and India soon as the last such meeting was held in New Delhi in 2010.

During the today’s meeting, foreign secretary and Indian envoy also positively discussed regarding restoring air connectivity between Bangladesh and India under the ‘air-bubble’ mechanism.

They also discussed on the issues related to reduce trade gap between the two countries as well as to seize border killing along the frontiers.

Both the sides agreed to find mutually acceptable solutions to all the pending issues soon, said the post.
