Sanatan Dharmabalambi Oikya Parishad demands arrest of Buddhist Monk Sharanangkar

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2020 (BSS) – Leaders of Sanatan Dharmabalambi Oikya Parishad today demanded arrest of Sharanangkar Thero, a Buddhist Monk, for occupying an ancient crematorium of Hindu community in Falaharia village under Rangunia upazila in Chattogram.

They raised the demand from a human chain at the National Press Club here.

Terming Sharanangkar as hypocrite, deceiver, liar and land grabbers, they alleged that Sharanangkar has occupied the ancient crematorium of the Sanatan community in the village Falaharia of Rangunia and he is not allowing any cremation there.

They said that using Buddhism as a shield, Sharanangkar has occupied 100 acres of forest land and destroyed thousands of trees in the name of building installations there.

After exposing these misdeeds, Sharanangkar has been driven out from the area, the leaders said and claimed that he is now engaged in a new game of destroying the hundred-year-old communal harmony of Rangunia.

He is frequently spreading provocative video messages and speeches against other religions and prominent people on social media, said Sanatan Dharmabalambi Oikya Parishad leaders.

Speaking as the chief guest in the rally, Manoranjan Ghoshal, a veteran freedom fighter and vocalist of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, alleged that Sharanangkar Monk occupied the Hindu crematorium and did not allow the bodies to be cremated there.

He demanded immediate arrest of the Buddhist Monk so that any kind of untoward situation cannot happen.

Rangunia Kadamtali temple priest and freedom fighter Rupam Chakraborty presided over it.

Syedbari temple priest Sujan Chakraborty, actress Aruna Biswas, former student leader Tarit Kanti Dey and Chattogram North District Janmashtami Utjapon Parishad leaders Pankaj Chowdhury, Nirmal Das, Supayan Chowdhury, Shaibal Chakraborty and Lipi Chowdhury also spoke at the rally.
