President for reducing trade deficit with Thailand

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today urged the Government of Thailand to increase imports from Bangladesh to reduce the trade deficit between the two countries.

The President made the call as the outgoing Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh, Arunrung Phothong Humphreys, paid a farewell call-on him at Bangabhaban this evening, Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.

Thanking the outgoing Thai envoy for successful completion of his tenure in Bangladesh, Hamid said Bangladesh’s trade with Thailand is gradually increasing.

During the meeting, President Hamid also called for the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries to enhance bilateral ties in days to come.

The head of the state thanked the Thai Government for providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya refugees, who have taken shelter in Bangladesh territory being the worst victims of the atrocities at their Rakhine state motherland in Myanmar.

The outgoing Thai ambassador expressed his gratefulness to the President for his overall cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.

President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Shamim-Uz-Zaman, Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin and President’s Office Secretary (attached) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present on the occasion.
