BFF’s much-hyped election tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 2, 2020 (BSS) – The much-hyped election of Bangladesh
Football Federation (BFF) will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at pan
pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city.

Chief election commissioner Mezbah Uddin Ahmed will conduct the
election that will be held from 2 pm to 6p pm without any break after
the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which starts at 10 am at the same
venue.

The candidates of the two panels – Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin led
“Sammilito Parishad” or combined panel and former celebrated national
striker Sheikh Mohammad Aslam led ‘Samonnya Parishad” or integrated
panel are contesting in the BFF election, which the BFF earlier had to
postpone the election scheduled for April 20 last for indefinite
period due to outbreak of COVID-19, after taking consent of FIFA and
AFC.

Incumbent president Kazi Salahuddin is going to contest with full
panel in the election, keeping most of his executive committee members
while the opposition ‘Samonnya Parishad” panel could not give a
presidential candidate.

There are two independent presidential candidates — former
footballer and former national football team coach Shafiqul Islam
Manik and former national footballer Badal Roy.

Badal however has announced his withdrawal from the elections after
the deadline though he is still legally a candidate.

It’s the first time in the history of BFF election as three
candidates are contesting in the president post.

As per final list, forty candidates will compete for the twenty
posts of the BFF executive committee – three for president posts, two
for senior vice-president posts, eight for vice-president post and 34
for executive member posts.

Former legendary footballer Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin is contesting
for the post of president for the fourth consecutive times in a row in
the BFF election.

FOOTBALL-BFF-ELECTION-TWO LAST

Salahuddin, one of the most popular celebrities of country’s
football, was elected as the BFF president in 2008 for the first time
by beating his then opponent, late Major General (retd) Amin Ahmed
Chowdhury.

The living legend of country’s football was again elected unopposed
thereby becoming the president for the second time in 2012 and
retained the hot seat of BFF for the third consecutive term defeating
businessman Kamrul Ashraf Khan Poton in 2016.

The Swadhin Bangla Football team member Salahuddin when declared
his candidature for the fourth time in BFF election, looked to face
tough challenges from the reputed merchant of Chattogram Tarafdar
Ruhul Amin and seating vice president Badal Roy would be the
contenders for the post.

But, eventually both Badal Roy and Tarafdar withdrew themselves
from the contest that paved the way of Salahuddin in the election
race. Shafiqul Islam Manik is now the only rival of Salahuddin. The
thing is to see who will laugh in the last.

Kazi Salahuddin and independent president candidate Manik both
earlier disclosed 36 points and 21 points manifesto respectively for
the election to take the country’s football ahead.

On the other hand, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam is contesting for the post
of senior vice president from “Samonnoya Parishad” against seating
senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshdy, who is contesting from
Salahuddin led combined panel.
