Maintain cleanliness for a planned, organized Dhaka: Tajul

DHAKA, 30 Sept, 2020 (BSS) – Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam has said the accusation that Dhaka is dirty and unclean will be removed soon if the city dwellers come forward.

“The city has been labeled as unclean. If the public representatives, government officials, city dwellers and all concerned work together, we can surely get rid of the slander,” he said while distributing ‘Vacuum Type Road Sweeper Truck’ for all city corporations today, said a press release.

The program was organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives at Justice Sahabuddin Ahmed Park at Gulshan-2 in the capital.

The minister said, “If we can organize Dhaka city according to the plan, clean and tidy, then the people of the country will not have to go abroad to enjoy the beauty.”

The minister urged the concerned officials to be vigilant so that the public life is not disturbed while continuing development works.

Warning those who are illegally occupying government property, including rivers, canals, parks and sidewalks, the minister said, “No one has the right to illegally occupy government land. Anyone occupying public property will be evacuated.”

The Minister emphasized on making all the institutions under the Local Government Department, including two city corporations, financially self-sufficient and declared stern actions against corruption.

The minister also said a project has been taken to introduce water transport from Hatirjheel to Uttara for the movement of common people in both areas, said the release.

LGRD Senior Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed presided over the function while Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Md Jahangir Alam were present as special guests.

Senior officials of the Local Government Department, Dhaka City Corporations and Ward Councilors were also present.
