President mourns death of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah

DHAKA, Sept 29, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today
expressed profound sorrow and shock at the death of Kuwait’s Emir
Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah.

In a condolence message, the President said, Kuwait’s Emir played a
very significant role in development of bilateral ties between
Bangladesh and Kuwait.

Sheikh Sabah, the architect of Kuwait’s modern foreign policy, was
the country’s foreign minister for about 40 years from 1963 to 2003.
He had been the Emir of Kuwait since 2006.

He died at a United States hospital around 8pm (Bangladesh time) on
Tuesday. He was 91. Earlier in July, he was flown to there for medical
treatment following surgery for an unspecified condition in Kuwait.

Sheikh Sabah was born in 1929.

The head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul
and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
