COVID-19 cases cross 11,900 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 29, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has crossed the 11,900 mark amid a declining trend in the daily number of infections during the last four consecutive weeks in Rangpur division.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 11,922 with 30 more infections reported on Monday in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 30 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of the division at the daily infection rate of over 10.63 percent on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 11,922 patients stands at 2,827 in Rangpur, 610 in Panchagarh, 1,055 in Nilphamari, 859 in Lalmonirhat, 903 in Kurigram, 1,120 in Thakurgaon, 3,379 in Dinajpur and 1,169 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 10,666 with the recovery of 65 more infected people in the division on Monday.

“The average recovery rate currently stands at 89.46 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 10,666 recovered patients include 2,479 of Rangpur, 561 of Panchagarh, 990 of Nilphamari, 793 of Lalmonirhat, 816 of Kurigram, 784 of Thakurgaon, 3,195 of Dinajpur and 1,048 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 212 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere in the division on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 212 fatalities stands at 48 in Rangpur, 72 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 each in Gaibandha and Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at over 1.77 percent in the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 68,677 collected samples of Rangpur division till Monday, and of them, 11,922 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of about 17.36 percent.

“Currently, the recovery rate (89.46 percent) of COVID-19 patients is 5.15 times higher than the infection rate (17.36 percent) in the division,” Dr. Ahmed said.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 157 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 118 others released in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 79,380 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 75,009 released and 4,371 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

“Among the total 11,922 COVID-19 patients of the division, 97 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,666 patients and 212 deaths while 947 remaining in home isolations,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the infection rate continued declining amid rising recovery rate during the last four consecutive weeks.

“To maintain the improving trend in the daily number of infections and further reduce spread of COVID-19 infection in the division, common people should properly abide by the health directives of the government,” Dr. Lyzu said.
