Two held with huge ganja, phensedyl in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 18, 2020 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized huge smuggled ganja, phensedyl, a truck and other goods and arrested two presumed drug traders from Joyrampur village in Mithapukur upazila of the district today.

The arrested are truck driver Md. Shahidul Islam, 32, son of Md. Azizul Haque of village Hilalipara and helper Md. Khairul Basher, 28, son of Md. Abdul Karim of village Phulhar under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district.

“An operational team of Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) of RAB-13 arrested them with the drugs and other goods,” said a press release issued here today by Company Commander of Rangpur CPSC of RAB-13 and Additional Police Super Md. Hafizur Rahman.

The elite force seized 21.50 kg of ganja and 356 bottles of phensedyl after searching a stone-laden truck.

Besides, the RAB members also seized the truck and recovered 403 cubic feet of stones, two mobile phone sets, two SIM cards and Taka 1,810 in cash from their possession.

“During interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they had been purchasing the drugs from bigger drug traders of frontier areas in Lalmonirhat and tactfully carrying those to Rangpur and other parts of the country for a long time,” the release added.

After filing a case in this connection, the elite force handed over the arrested drug traders to Mithapukur Police Station in Rangpur district this afternoon.
