71 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 17, 2020 (BSS) – Seventy-one more people were tested positive today for coronavirus (COVID-19) at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of Rangpur division.

Health officials said 71 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 376 samples collected from six northern districts in Rangpur division at the laboratory at the infection rate of 18.88 percent.

Of them, 32 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory today at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 32 patients include 14 of Rangpur, two of Gaibandha, six of Lalmonirhat, eight of Kurigram and one each of Dinajpur and Nilphamari,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 39 more new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 39 new COVID-19 patients include 35 of Dinajpur and four of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 9:40 pm tonight.

Talking to BSS tonight, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients stridently rose to 11,405 as 71 new cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,405 patients stands at 2,704 in Rangpur, 570 in Panchagarh, 994 in Nilphamari, 824 in Lalmonirhat, 875 in Kurigram, 1,036 in Thakurgaon, 3,283 in Dinajpur and 1,119 Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
