24 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 13, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty-four more people were tested positive today for coronavirus (COVID-19) in Rangpur division at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the rate of daily COVID-19 infections continues to decline in the last 12 consecutive days in the division.

“The 24 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 188 samples collected from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts at the infection rate of about 12.76 percent in the laboratory in Rangpur city,” he said.

“The 24 patients include 11 of Rangpur, seven of Gaibandha, two of Kurigram and four of Lalmonirhat districts,” Dr. Lyzu added.

Meanwhile, testing of samples remained suspended for the eleventh consecutive day today at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur of Rangpur division due to technical problems.

An expert team from the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka came today to Dinajpur and started conducting necessary repairs of the PCR machine and testing systems.

“We are expecting to run the PCR machine from tomorrow for resuming the process of testing samples from the next day if everything goes well,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS.

Talking to BSS at 7 pm, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 11,181 in the division as 24 new cases of four districts were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,181 patients stands at 2,654 in Rangpur, 542 in Panchagarh, 980 in Nilphamari, 805 in Lalmonirhat, 856 in Kurigram, 1,018 in Thakurgaon, 3,227 in Dinajpur and 1,099 Gaibandha districts,” he added.
