Suspended gardener arrested over attack on UNO Wahida
DINAJPUR, Sept 12, 2020 (BSS) – Police today arrested a suspended gardener of Ghoraghat upazila parishad and seized a hammer and other weapons “used” in the attack on Ghoraghat UNO Wahida Khanam and her father from his possession.
“Robiul Islam (36), who was temporarily suspended over theft allegations from the upazila parishad in January last, has been arrested. A hammer and other weapons, used in the attack on the UNO attempting to murder her, have been recovered from his possession,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Rangpur range) Devdas Bhattacharya told a press briefing this afternoon.
Noting some evidences regarding the attack on the UNO have been recovered, the police official said more information will be found out through investigation.
Dinajpur Police Super Anwar Hossain and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and DB Police Inspector Abu Imam Jafar were present at the press conference, among others.
However, in the later of part of the day, Robiul was produced before the court with a plea for a 10-day remand while Dinajpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain granted a seven-day remand for Robiul, Dinajpur Court Police Inspector Md Israil Hossain confirmed the development to BSS.
IO of the case Abu Imam Jafar said they would take the accused (Robiul) to their custody for interrogation this evening.
Besides, a prime accused of the case Asadul Haque, who was on a 7-day remand since September 6, and the night guard of the UNO’s residence Nahidul Hossain Polash, who was arrested on Friday suspecting over connection with the attack on the UNO, were sent to jail by the court.
