DGHS gives positive response about BCB coaches quarantine period
DHAKA, Sept 12, 2020 (BSS)—As the Sri Lanka series is approaching fast, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had requested the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to allow the foreign members of the coaching staff of Bangladesh cricket team to end their quarantine in seven days so that they can join the camp.
As per the government instruction, every traveller coming to Bangladesh has to maintain a 14-day quarantine. But if the coaches maintain 14-day quarantine, it will be quite tougher for them to supervise the practice session for a considerable amount of time before heading to Sri Lanka.
The BCB on Saturday said that the DGHS responded positively to them and they are now waiting for the permission. The BCB hopes that the matter will be finalized within a couple of days.
Head coach Russell Domingo and fielding coach Ryan Cook arrived in Dhaka from South Africa on Sunday night to join the team for the Lanka series. Pace bowling coach Otis Gibson also returned to Bangladesh from the West Indies a day later.
“We have received a positive response verbally from those involved in the DGHS. However, they wanted some documents. We gave it. We hope to get their permission in the next couple of days,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.
Trainer Nick Lee and physio Julian Calefato, two other members of the foreign coaching staff, returned to Dhaka in the last week of last month. Their quarantine has already ended. However, English coach Nick Lee is in isolation as he was positive in the first stage corona test taken by BCB.
Meanwhile, spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori and newly appointed batting consultant Craig Macmillan are scheduled to join the team directly from New Zealand to Sri Lanka. Therefore, their quarantine will be in accordance with the health protocol of the Lankan Cricket Board.
