31 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 11, 2020 (BSS) – Thirty-one more people were tested
positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division today at the COVID-19
Laboratory in Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and
Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM
Nurunnabi Lyzu said the rate of daily COVID-19 infections continues to
decline in recent weeks in the division.

“The 31 new infected cases were reported after diagnosing 188
samples collected from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram
districts at the infection rate of about 16.49 percent in the
laboratory in Rangpur city,” he said.

“The 31 patients include 13 of Rangpur, six of Gaibandha, eight of
Kurigram and four of Lalmonirhat districts,” Dr. Lyzu said.

Meanwhile, the testing of samples remained suspended for the ninth
consecutive day today at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim
Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur of Rangpur division due to
technical problems.

Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain said experts from
the IEDCR in Dhaka are expected to complete repairing works of the PCR
machine at the laboratory to resume the process of testing samples at
the earliest possible time.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur
division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients
rose to 11,133 in the division as 31 new cases of four districts were
reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,133 patients stands at 2,630
in Rangpur, 542 in Panchagarh, 980 in Nilphamari, 795 in Lalmonirhat,
852 in Kurigram, 1,018 in Thakurgaon, 3,227 in Dinajpur and 1,089
Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
