Speakers for strict enforcement of law to protect rights of disabled

DHAKA, July 1, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a press conference today laid
emphasis on the existing laws about the people with disability for protecting
their rights in the society.

The physically challenged people are deprived of different opportunities
compared to normal people due to proper enforcement of law, they told the
press conference on “Easy access of disabled women in judicial system” at the
Jatiya Press Club here.

Women Youth Disability Development Foundation (WYDDF) organized the press
conference, where WYDDF Executive Director Ashrafun Nahar Mishti placed the
keynote paper.

In her keynote presentation, Ashrafun Nahar said violence against disabled
women and children have decreased as the government has taken necessary
initiatives including formulation of law, policy related to the people with
disability.

She stressed the need for disabled friendly infrastructures for smooth
movement of differently able people.

According to household survey of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS),
9.7 percent disabled people make up total population of the country.

Other speakers said Bangladesh cannot reach the target of desired
development ignoring the people with disability. They urged the government to
provide necessary facilities to unlock their immense potentiality like the
normal ones.
