Innovation crucial to revive post- pandemic economy- Speaker

DHAKA, Sep 9, 2020 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury today said that coming up with new ideas and modules is important to deal with the decline in global employment and fall of economy, due to the pandemic situation.

“Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, global employment is reducing while poverty is increasing, resulting a fall in economy,” she said while addressing as the chief guest the inaugural function of a more than 12-week investment readiness program called ‘Accelerate Bangladesh’, said a press release.

“We have to think of different innovative ways and modules to revive the economy”, Dr Shirin said.

Remarking the initiative to prepare startups to receive investment through eight Impacts and Commercial Investment Readiness Modules through the ‘Accelerate Bangladesh’ program as really commendable, the Speaker hoped that Accelerate Bangladesh will play an important role in consolidating the startup model and accelerating the economy.

“Many talented and skilled women, working in different sectors in our country need to be involved in various business plans by keeping a balance between supply and demand”, she said, said the release.

Through this plan, it is possible to overcome the effects of the recession and restructure a vibrant and strong economy, the JS Speaker added.

Stating that PM Sheikh Hasina has announced incentive packages in various sectors including small and medium enterprises to reduce financial losses, the Speaker said that “Additional allocations have been made by the government in various sectors, including providing cash assistance to low-income people, farmers and garment workers.”

The program was organized by Better Stories Limited and Bangladesh Angels.

Nirjhar Rahman, CEO of Bangladesh Angels and Minhaj Anwar, Chief Story Teller of Better Stories Ltd. co-directed and conducted the function.

Selima Hossain, Director of Better Stories Ltd and Vinit Roy, Founder and Chairman of Aviskar Group of India, were the keynote speakers at the event.

Tina Jabin, Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh, Sajid Rahman, Co-Founder and CEO of Digital Healthcare, Sanchayan Chakraborty, Partner of Aviskar Group, Maxim Chen, Program Manager of Roots of Impact, Co-Founder of Light Castle Partner and Its CEO Julie Murat and Investment Growth Country Coordinator Mehad Ul Haq were also present at the function.
