Kamal for coordinated global operations to overcome COVID-19 crisis

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2020 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has stressed the

need for undertaking a well-coordinated global operations to face the COVID-19

crisis where the United Nations can play a pioneering role.

In this tough journey, Kamal said the G-7, G-20, OECD and international

financial institutions can also play their due role.

The Finance Minister said this while addressing a virtual meeting of the Finance

Ministers held yesterday night, said a Ministry press release.

Organised by the United Nations, Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, UN

deputy Secretary General Amina J Mohammed, Jamaican Finance and Public Service

Minister Nigel Clarke, among others, joined the virtual meeting.

The release said the overall objectives of the meeting were to discuss an

effective list of policy alternative to get free from the dreadful consequences

of COVID-19 as well as to help framing a long-term, stable and sustainable

global financial architecture.

The Finance Minister also stressed that the developed countries are fulfilling

0.7 percent of their ODA commitments to help overcoming the COVID-19 shock.

Finance Ministers of more than sixty countries alongside representatives from

various international financial institutions joined the virtual meeting.

The recommendations of the meeting will be placed before the high-level meeting

of the heads of state and government of the 75th virtual session of the UN

General Assembly on September 29.
