More 34 tests positive for coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 6, 2020 (BSS) – Thirty-four more people were tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) today at the Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) COVID-19 laboratory in Rangpur city.

Officials said testing of samples remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day today at the COVID-19 laboratory in Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) under Rangpur division due to the technical problems.

Talking to BSS this evening, Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker said experts are trying to repair the PCR machine at the laboratory where the testing process of samples is expected to resume within the next two days.

Meanwhile, the 34 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 188 samples collected from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts.
“Among the 34 patients, 19 of Rangpur, eight each of Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha and four of Kurigram districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Prof Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told BSS at 7:20 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 10,888 in the division as 34 new cases of five districts were reported.

“The district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 2,570 in Rangpur, 537 in Panchagarh, 958 in Nilphamari, 772 in Lalmonirhat, 830 in Kurigram, 992 in Thakurgaon, 3,167 in Dinajpur and 1,062 in Gaibandha under the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
