More 43 tests positive for coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 4, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 43 more people were tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) today at the COVID-19 laboratory in Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in the city.

Health officials said testing of collected samples remained suspended for the second consecutive day today at the COVID-19 laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur under Rangpur division due to technical problems.

Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told BSS that testing of samples would resume at the laboratory within the next three to four days after completion of necessary repairs.

Meanwhile, the 43 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 188 samples collected from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Nilphamari districts.

“Among the 43 patients, 13 of Rangpur, 14 of Lalmonirhat, seven of Gaibandha, eight of Kurigram and one of Nilphamari districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Prof Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 10,816 in the division as 43 new cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break-up of the 10,816 patients now stands at 2,539 in Rangpur, 537 in Panchagarh, 959 in Nilphamari, 757 in Lalmonirhat, 824 in Kurigram, 992 in Thakurgaon, 3,167 in Dinajpur and 1,041 Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
