OC Pradip, four others sued for killing 2 siblings

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 2, 2020 (BSS) – A case has been filed with a Chattogram court against five policemen, including Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Pradip Kumar Das, for killing two brothers, Amanul Islam Faruq and Azadul Islam Azad, residents of Chandnaish upazila of the district.

Younger sister of the victims Jinnat Sultana Shahin today filed the case with the court of Kamrun Nahar Rumi, chief judicial magistrate.

Taking the case into cognizance, the court directed additional superintendent of police (Anwara circle) to submit the investigation report of the case within September 20.

The accused are suspended OC of Teknaf thana Pradip Kumar Das, 45, SI Iftekharul Islam, 38 of Teknaf Police Station and its constables Mazharul, 38, Deen Islam, 34 and Amjad, 35.

Confirming the matter, the plaintiff’s lawyer told journalists that Azadul Islam Azad, returned from abroad and his brother guava farmer Amanul Islam Faruq were taken away from their house by the then OC of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das and other policemen to realize extortion of Tk eight lakh. As their family failed to pay the money, the cops killed them in the name of crossfire.

Then, a case was also filed under Narcotics Act against the two brothers.

Shahin said his brother Azad had been living abroad for a long time. He came in Bangladesh on sixth Ramadan last. Another elder brother Farooq used to work in mobile servicing shop and side by side cultivating guava in their village.

Faruk and Azad were never involved in Yaba business, she claimed.
