Pranab Mukherjee was a true friend of Bangladesh: Russell
DHAKA, Sept 2, 2020 (BSS)- State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell MP today said Indian former president late Pranab Mukherjee was a true friend of Bangladesh, a press release said today.
He was speaking as the chief guest from a virtual platform in the mourning meeting, organised by the Youth Development Department in memory of former Indian president late Pranab Mukherjee. Youth and Sports Secretary Mohammad Akhter Hossain was the special guest in the mourning meeting, presided by Youth Development Department Director General Aktaruzzaman Khan Kabir.
He loved Bangladesh and the people with all his heart and in a real sense he left the prove. He made an important contribution in the war of liberation in Bangladesh. During the time of the liberation war he played a unique role not only in India but also abroad in shaping public opinion in favor of Bangladesh, said the State Minister.
Russell said his love for the people of Bangladesh was worth mentioning as his first trip to Bangladesh after he was elected as the first Bengoli President of India in 2012. His first foreign trip was in Bangladesh as well after stepping down as president.
The State Minister said the nation will today gratefully remember the inspiration of Pranab Mukherjee for achieving the country’s independence through the liberation war under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
