DHAKA, Sept 2, 2020 (BSS)—The Bangladesh coaches can help Shakib Al Hasan personally in his practice session at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP), said the BCB Cricketer Operations chairman Akram Khan.

Shakib who reached Bangladesh at the early hour on Tuesday, will now have to undergo a corona test and if he is negative in the test, he is highly likely to go straight BKSP to start his practice session.

“Everything would have to be on a personal level since there is an ICC ban on Shakib. The BCB can’t be involved with his initiative right now. But if the coaches want to help, they can do it personally,” Akram said here today.

The ace all-rounder’s ban will be ended October 29 after which he can be available for national selection. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already shown its eagerness to get the service of Shakib Al Hasan in the Test series against Sri Lanka.

Shakib will miss the opening Test since it is scheduled from October but there is a great chance that he can be available for the next two Test matches. The premier all-rounder who was banned due to his failure to report corrupt approaches to ICC, seemed to be keen to get back to the national team immediately after his ban ends.

Shakib, also the former student of BKSP, had already talked to the Director General of BKSP and took his permission to train there under the supervision of coaches Nazmul Abedeen Fahim and Salahuddin.

Akram said there is no problem for Shakib to train personally under the supervision of the coaches but BCB will work him from 29th October, when his ban will be ended officially.

“All the guidelines of the national team will be applicable for him after October 29. You also know that there is a ban from the ICC and I will request you as everything is fine so far, so you should not do anything which goes against him at the end according to the rules of ACSU. So officially we will work with him from the 29th. Before that, if our coach wants to help him, they can do it personally,” Akram added.

Meanwhile, chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said, the BCB will decide whether Shakib would get his captaincy back after coming to the national team. Shakib was the Test and T20 captain of Bangladesh before he was banned from cricket.

“Whether he would regain his captaincy will solely be decided by the BCB. The selector panel doesn’t select the captain of the team,” he said.
