RAJSHAHI, Sept 1, 2020 (BSS) – Department of Social Services (DSS) has provided financial support of around Tk 34.5 lakh for 69 patients suffering from various chronic diseases like kidney, liver cirrhosis, cancer and heart in Rajshahi.
On the occasion, deputy director office of DSS arranged a cheque distribution programme in the conference hall of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) on Monday.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed it as the chief guest, while Deputy Director Abdul Jalil was in the chair.
Deputy Director of DSS Hasina Momtaz, Assistant Directors Dr Abdullah Al Firoj and Baayezid Hossain Wareshin and Social Service Officer Dr Hamidul Islam also spoke.
In his remarks, Mayor Liton said the present government has taken many steps for the welfare of patients to help them pass their days without difficulties.
“Considering their vulnerable condition, the government has launched the support allowance programme,” he said.
The beneficiaries have been getting their allowance timely through their own bank accounts.
The meeting was told that around 2,578 patients suffering from various chronic diseases like cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, stroke, disability and heart received financial support worth around Tk 12.89 crore in all eight districts under Rajshahi division till June last.
