Aman paddy seed sale by BADC progressing fast in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, JUNE 30, 2018 (BSS) – Sale of foundation seed of various Aman
paddy to the farmers has been progressing fast from the sale centers of
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) here at fair prices
since May.

According to sources, the authority of BADC gave an allotment of 87 tonnes
of Aman seed primarily to sell through its three sale centres located at
district town, Palashbari and Gobindaganj upazila towns during the current
Robi season.

Later, more eight tonnes of Aman seed were given allotment after ending the
sale of 87 tonnes of seed through the sales centres and the selected dealers
of the organisation here, the sources said.

The Aman seed includes BR 10, 11, 22, 23, BRRI Dhan 32, 33, 34, 39, 49, 51
and 52, BINA 7 and hybrid WIN 207.

Till June 29, as many as 93 tonnes of quality seed of Aman paddy had
already been sold through the centres, said an official of BADC here.

A sack of seed of fine rice weighing 10 kgs is being sold from the centres
at Taka 555, coarse rice at Taka 540 and per kg of hybrid WIN 207 at Taka
250, the sources added.

A number of farmers are seen to purchase the seed from the sale centers of
the BADC with much confidence to sow the seed on the prepared land to get
desired output against the seed.

Senior Assistant Director of BADC here M Mazharul Islam said the seed of
the varieties is also being sold to the farmers through the 132 selected
dealers of BADC in seven upazilas of the district at fixed prices side by
side with the sales centres.

Talking to the BSS, deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension
(DAE) AKM Ruhul Amin said necessary initiative had been taken to produce
seedlings of Aman paddy on 6,995 hectares of land during the current season.
