Govt working to generate electricity from garbage: Tajul
DHAKA, Aug 22, 2020 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today said the government is working to generate electricity from garbage to add electricity to the national grid.
“As part of our initiative, we are consulting with a foreign company to sign an agreement on producing electricity from garbage,” he said while visiting the Amin Bazar landfill and the mechanical workshop at Gabtali in the city, an official release said.
Tajul said under power generation process from garbage, Dhaka will be made pollution free city through proper management of landfills.
He said the government would take more initiatives for proper utilization of different landfills in the capital to increase power production in the country.
Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam and other senior officials of the ministry and relevant organizations, among others, were present on the occasion.
