Inter-ministerial meeting over expatriates’ welfare held

DHAKA, Aug 17, 2020 (BSS) – With a view to smoothing the migration process of expatriate workers to their destination countries amid COVID-19, an online emergency meeting with the initiative of Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment was held here today.

Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed presided over the meeting, said a press release.

During the meeting, the minister said, “Expatriate workers are country’s assets. We should ensure that the expatriate workers can return to their working destination without any hindrance and at a bearable expense.”

The minister also said arrangements for expatriate should be made to go to abroad with the required documents after completing examinations according to the demand of foreign countries.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali were present at the meeting.

Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmed Kaikaus, Civil Aviation and Tourism Senior Secretary Md Mahibul Haque, Foreign Ministry Secretary Masud Bin Momen, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Secretary Ahmed Munirush Salehin, Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Md Mokabbir Hossain, Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mofidur Rahman and Bangladesh Ambassador to the UAE Md Abu Zafar were also present at meeting.

The meeting has decided that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) would send a report to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism within the next five working days to find out the actual reasons behind the return of expatriate workers from Abu Dhabi on Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Air Arabia flights.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines will provide tickets in the favor of all the passengers who have booked Bangladesh Biman tickets and in this case passengers will not have to pay any extra cost, the meeting recommended.

The speakers also said Bangladesh Biman should take necessary steps to fix the fair price of tickets of other airlines, added the release.
