DHAKA, Aug 17, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today asked the leaders and workers of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) not to get involved with any misdeeds to keep intact the organization’s goodwill amidst the AL government’s marching towards progress.

“Organizational steps will be taken against those who will violate disciplines. You should not get involved with any wrongdoing,” he told a discussion arranged by Dhaka University unit of BCL marking the National Mourning Day at AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office here.

Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, joined the discussion through videoconferencing from his official residence on Parliament premises saying the government’s drives against corruption and irregularities carries uniform message for all as none will be spared if he or she is found involved in any wrongdoing.

Turning to the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family on August 15, 1975, he said Bangabandhu’s two daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana escaped the deaths as they were staying abroad.

The Al general secretary said his party welcomed Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina, the lighthouse of confidence and shelter of trust, with their profound love from hearts and enthusiasm in her return to motherland Bangladesh in 1981 after overcoming different hurdles.

After coming home, the successor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Hasina started working for organizing the party and forged national unity by turning her grief of losing dear and near ones into strength, he added.

Quader said killers of Bangabandhu were brought to justice as Sheikh Hasina remains in power and the nation got freed from stigma while the trials of war criminals were also taken place.

Under the premier’s able leadership, Bangladesh has come out of the ill-repute of a baseless basket and become a country of promising economic uplift, he added.

Dubbing Sheikh Hasina a great warrior who escaped deaths and blue prints of plots time and again, the minister said the country has become a role model of development because of her bold leadership.

He said BNP is now out to spread propaganda that there is no justice in the country but the party’ founder Ziaur Rahman gave shelter to killers of Bangabandhu and stopped the path of bringing the killers to justice.

“Trial of killers remained far away as we even did not demand justice for 21 years. This right was also taken away. But today BNP is talking about humanity,” he said.

He questioned who carried out the grenade attacks on the AL rally targeting to kill the then Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina on August 21, 2004.

The minister said the incidents of August 15 carnage and August 21 grenade attacks are interwoven.

“If we utter the truth, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and others state that we are undermining Ziaur Rahman. Who gave safe exit to killers of Bangabandhu? Who rewarded killers by giving them jobs at different Bangladesh missions?” he said.

The AL general secretary said Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad made Ziaur Rahman, who was a beneficiary of Bangabandhu’s assassination, the army chief.
He said killers and their patrons must be made accountable to the court of history.

Quader sad BNP is talking about corruption and irregularities but irony is that the words BNP and corruption are synonymous .

The country became world champions in corruption during their regime as the party gave corruption an institutional shape, he added.

The minister said BNP has recognized itself as a self-acknowledged corrupt political party by scrapping the section 7 relating to corruption from their party constitution.

He said talking about corruption does not go with BNP as it seems like ‘the devil listening to the scriptures’.

Quader, also a former president of BCL, urged the BCL leaders to remain alert as the plotters of the August 15 carnage and other conspirators still remain active.

Extreme radical forces are still looking for chances to carry out their evil attempts against the country of peace and prosperity to take it into the domain of Pakistani ideology, he added.

As long as Sheikh Hasina remains in power, he said, no conspiracies would be able to halt the country’s progress.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, BCL President Al-Nahean Khan Joy and General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee addressed the discussion with DU unit president of BCL Sanjit Chandra Das in the chair.

DU unit of BCL general secretary Saddam Hussain moderated it.
