Zia perpetrated assassination of Bangabandhu: Anisul

DHAKA, Aug 15, 2020 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Anisul Huq today said from the chronology of events following
the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman along with most of his family members, it was evident that
Ziaur Rahman perpetrated the heinous crime.

“Ziaur Rahman was involved with the killing. He became Chief of Army
Staff within seven days of Bangabandhu murder, Deputy Chief Martial
Law Administrator after three months and became President and Chief
Martial Law Administrator after six months,” he said.

The law minister stated these while addressing a virtual discussion
organized by the United Kingdom chapter of Awami League as chief
discussant marking the National Mourning Day and 45th martyrdom
anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,
this evening, an official release said.

“Ziaur Rahman made Razakars like Shah Azizur Rahman Prime Minister
and Shamsul Haque the Foreign Minister to hurt the sentiment of
Freedom Fighters. He made another Razakar Abdul Alim minister. Khaleda
Zia too made war criminals like Nizami and Mojaheed ministers. The
main objective of doing these was to completely destroy ‘Sonar
Bangladesh’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu,” Anisul Huq added.

The law minister further said if Sheikh Hasina had not become prime
minister in 1996, the trial of Bangabandhu killing would not be
possible.

“This trial would not have completed if Sheikh Hasina had not
become prime minister in 2009. The trial of war crimes and crimes
against humanity would not be possible and the development that took
place in the country in the last one decade would not be possible,” he
said.

Presided over by United Kingdom Awami League president Sultan Mahmud
Sharif and conducted by its general secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman
Faruk, the virtual discussion was further addressed by Education
Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir
Nanak, deputy minister for education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel
and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, among others.
