Cultural Affairs Ministry takes elaborate programmes to observe National Mourning Day

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2020 (BSS) – The Cultural Affairs Ministry and its subordinate bodies have chalked out programmes to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members on August 15.

To mark the day, the national flag will be kept half-mast at all the buildings of the agencies under the cultural affairs ministry. Initiative will be taken as per the directives given by the cabinet division on placing floral wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at DhanmondiRoad-32.

Dropdown banner will be set up at the ministry and at the buildings of its subordinate agencies, headquarters and regional offices. The recitation of the holy Quaran and Doa-Mahfil also will be held for seeking the eternal peace of the departed soul of the martyrdoms following the heath guidelines.

To mark the National Mourning Day, the Cultural Affairs Ministry will organize discussion, cultural programme and doa-mahfil at the Jatiaya Nattyasala of Bangladesh ShilpakalaAcademy at 4:00pm on August 17.

Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque will attend the programme as the chief guest while former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor also attend the programme as the special guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid presided over the meeting.

Chief Coordinator of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhurywill present the keynote paper at the discussion.

Bangla Academy will organize discussion on ‘Bangabandhu in 100 years’ and tree plantation programme on August 16 on the occasion of the National Mourning Day.

Directorate of Archives and Libraries has organized a digital exhibition with some rare photography of Bangabandhu’s life and activities from August 7 to 21.

The cultural affairs ministry has allocated Taka one lakh for divisional level, Taka 50,000 for district level and Taka 25,000 for upazila level for holding online cultural competition throughout the country on the occasion of the day.

The outline of the cultural competition has already been sent to all the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers (UNO). The district cultural officers will take necessary action of implementing the programme after make correspondence with the deputy commissioners and the UNOs.

Apart from this, Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the Department of Public Library, KabiNazrul Institute, Archeology Department and Copy Right office will organize virtual discussion and seminar to commemorating the Father of the Nation.

Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh ShilpakalaAcademy, the Department of Public Library, Kabi NazrulInstitute, Bangladesh Folk Art and Craft Foundation and the Directorate of Archives and Libraries has organized essay, quiz and art competition with the participation of the school, college and university students.

Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Ministry will organize a doa-mahfil on Friday (August 14) to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to participate in the programme as the chief guest through the virtual platform at the Social Welfare Directorate at Agargaon.

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and State Minister for Social Welfare M Ashraf Ali Khan Khosru will attend the programme as the special guests.
