Neo-JMB has no ability to launch large-scale attack: Police

DHAKA, Aug 12, 2020 (BSS) –Police said the militant outfits, including Neo Jama’at-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (Neo-JMB), do not have enough ability to carry out large-scale attacks as they have become weakmore than before.

“The Neo- JMB does not have enough capacity to carry out large-scale attack . . . Now, it has become weakmore than before,” Md Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) and additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told at a press conference today.

Five alleged militants arrested from different areas of Sylhet, including Mirabazar, Tuker Bazar and South Surma yesterday (August 11), were presented before the media at the press conference.

The detainees were identified as Sheikh Sultan Mohammad Naimuzzaman, 26, Sanul Islam Sadi, 28, Rubel Ahmed, 28, Abdur Rahim Juwel, 30 and SayemMirza, 24.

Bomb-making materials, laptops and mobile phone sets were also recovered from their possessions.

Monirul said the militants have planned to carry out an attack at shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R).

He said the persons, arrested for their alleged involvement with a crude bomb blast targeting police on July 25,have been identified as the active members of the Neo-JMB’s military wing.

They were also involved in keeping an explosive device near a police box in Paltanon July 26.

In capital’s Gulistan area, an on-duty police officer found a bomb inside a polythene bag hung with his motorbike on July 26. Later, the bomb disposal unit of police defused the bomb.
