DNCC drive finds Aedes larvae in 75 establishments, fines Tk 62,300

DHAKA, Aug 10, 2020 (BSS) – The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today found Aedes mosquito larvae in 75 houses and establishments on the third day of its combing operation launched in all 54 wards of the city corporation on Saturday to protect the city dwellers from dengue.

The fine of Taka 62,300 was imposed in the special clean-up operation to save the city dwellers from the disease, said a release.

The DNCC team today visited 13,656 houses, establishments and under-construction buildings.

Besides, stagnant waters — the breeding ground of Aedes mosquitoes — were found in 7,959 houses and establishments.

In cases where the owners of the buildings or installations cannot be found, regular lawsuits will be filed if necessary.

After the completion of the first phase of combing operation from June 6 to 15 and the second phase of combing operation from July 4 to 14, the 10-day third phase of combing campaign started from August 8.

A total of 1,224 houses and installations were inspected under Uttara Zone-1 today and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 10 of them and a total fine of Tk 13,000 was collected in 3 cases. In addition, 1,023 houses were found with environment for Aedes mosquito breeding.

A total of 2,838 houses were inspected under Mirpur Region-2 and Aedes larvae were found in one of those houses and 350 houses were found to be conducive to Aedes mosquito breeding.

Under Mohakhali, Zone-3, a total of 1,605 houses were inspected and Aedes larvae were found in 33 of those house and Aedes mosquito breeding environment was found in 1,065 houses.

During the time, a fine of Tk 42,000 was collected in two cases.

A total of 1,038 houses under Mirpur 10, Zone-4 were inspected and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in eight of those, but no fine was imposed. In addition, 714 houses were found to be conducive to the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

A total of 2,398 houses under Karwan Bazar, Zone-5 were inspected and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in nine of those. In addition, 1,931 houses are found to be suitable for breeding Aedes mosquitoes.

Under Harirampur, Zone-6, a total of 1,150 establishments were inspected and Aedes larvae were found in six of those houses and a total fine of Tk 5,400 was recovered in two cases.

A total of 966 installations under Dakshin Khan Region-6 were inspected and Aedes larvae were found in five of those installations. In addition, Aedes mosquito breeding environment was found in 642 houses.

A total of 734 houses were inspected in Uttarkhan Zone-6 and mosquito larvae were found in one house. In addition, 435 houses / installations have been found with suitable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding.

A total of 489 houses under Bhatara Zone-9 were inspected and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in two of those. Besides, Aedes mosquito breeding environment was available in 26 houses.

At Satarkul Zone-10, a total of 65 houses were inspected and no Aedes mosquito larvae were found. However, Aedes mosquito breeding environment was available in 607 houses.

Pesticides have been sprayed in all the possible Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and the people have been asked to be aware in this regard.

In order to conduct the combing operation in the third phase, each ward has been divided into 10 sectors and each sector has been divided into 10 sub-sectors.

Everyday combing operations are being conducted in one sector of each ward.
As part of long-term and modern mosquito eradication management, a database is being created by storing information on Aedes larvae acquisition sites and breeding environments in the app.
