Religion for individuals, festivals for all: Hasan

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 2, 2020 (BSS) – Terming Bangladesh as a country of
communal harmony, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said
religion is for individuals but festivals is for all.

“Muslims are celebrating the holy Eid-ul-Azha. And all people of
the country are taking part in the festival with joyous,” he told a
meeting of ‘relatives’ at Sukhbilash Bhagabanpur Dharmankur Buddhist
Temple in Ranguniya upazila of the district.

The minister said, “People of all religions — Muslims, Hindus,
Buddhists and Christians — have grown up like brothers in our
village.

“And this is the scenario of whole Bangladesh. We had never had any
discrimination in our village. No one can disregard the tradition even
if someone tries,” he added.

People of all religions, he said, send up lighted balloons and set
free to flow towards the sky and everyone take part in the festival of
Buddhist.

At the same way, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians visits their
neighbours of Muslims friends during the Eid festivals, and the
tradition is going on for long decades, said Hasan, also Awami League
joint general secretary.

The minister reminisced about the Buddhist temple in his village,
saying he used to visit this monastery since his childhood.

Rangunia Buddhist community organized the programme with Chief
Abbot of the Buddhist temple Prajnajyoti Mahasthavira in the chair.

Former Vice Chairman of Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust Swajan
Kumar Talukder, Ranguniya Bouddha Krishi Prachar Sangha President
Gyanbangsha Mohathero, Senior President Parmananda Mohathero, Chief
Abbot of Batapahar Sarbojonin Shalban Bihar Sumantishya Thero, and
Chief Abbot of Folharia Boudhha Bihar Venerable Debomoy, among others,
addressed the function as special guest.

Later, the minister visited Sukhbilash Sarbojonin Lumbinikanan
Buddhist Monastery and flew lanterns.

Earlier in the afternoon, he inaugurated the Chandraghona Eye
Hospital in Rangunia.
