DNCRP fines 148 business houses for selling adulterated goods

DHAKA, July 30, 2020 (BSS) – As the part of authorities’ move to stop selling adulterated food items and products and free the consumers from the clutches of unscrupulous traders, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Wednesday fined 148 business establishments across the country Tk 8.36 lakh.

DNCRP in Dhaka city, Chattagram city, Gopalganj, Narshingdi, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Feni, Bramanbaria, Cumilla, Coxs’ Bazar, Laxmipur, Noakhali, Baishal, Jalokathi, Patuakhali, Bhola, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore, Sirajganj, Jaipurhat, Chapainawabganj, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat inspected different markets and fined the business establishments, a press release said today.

In a drive, DNCRP fined different business establishments located in city’s Rampura, Moddho Badda, Uttor Badda, Hemayetpur, Gabtali, Hatitpul and Rishipara areas and fined them Tk 74,000.

In another drive, DNCRP officials fined and realized Taka 7,46,000 from 134 shops across the country for selling the goods at an exorbitant price, not showing the price list, selling goods without any MRP seal and making food products at unhealthy places, it added.

In other drives, DNCRP fined four companies Taka 16,500 for selling goods at higher prices than the market prices and 4 complainants were paid Taka 4,125 as 25 percent of the fine.
