Govt distributes 7,915 MT rice among flood affected people

DHAKA, July 30, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 7,915 metric tones of rice
have so far been distributed among flood hit people in 31 districts
across the country against the government’s total allocation of 13,010
metric tones of rice as humanitarian assistance.

The government has also distributed Taka 2,04,45,000 cash among the
flood victims against the total allocation of Taka 3,36.50,000 till
Wednesday, said an official handout here today.

Besides, the government has allocated Taka 84 lakh for purchasing
baby foods while Taka 45 lakh has already been distributed, it said,
adding Taka 2.18 crore has been allocated for purchasing cattle feed
while Taka 90.94 lakh has been distributed.

The government has also allocated 1.40 lakh packets of dry food
while 102,112 packets have already been distributed among flood
affected people.

A total of 100 bundles of corrugated iron sheets have been
distributed against the total allocation of 300 bundles while Taka 3
lakh has been distributed as housing grant against the total
allocation of Taka 9 lakh.

The government has opened 1,548 shelter centers in the flood prone
areas where 73,173 people have taken refuges while 77,301 cattle have
been taken to the shelter centers.

In the flood affected district, a total of 893 medical teams have
been formed where 372 of them are functioning.

The flood affected districts are- Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail,
Manikganj, Faridpur, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur,
Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Jamalpur, Chandpur, Noakhali,
Lakshmipur, Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore, Sirajganj,
Bogura, Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Sylhet,
Moulvibazar, Hobiganj and Sunamganj.

Over 50.44 lakh people of more than 10.40 lakh marooned families of
936 unions of 150 upazilas under the 31 flood affected districts
across the country. A total of 41 people so far died during the flood.
