Bulbul resigns as RCC Mayor
RAJSHAHI, June 27, 2018 (BSS)- Musaddique Hossain Bulbul has resigned as Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) paving his way for contesting in the upcoming RCC mayoral election.
Bulbul announced his resignation and got relieved of the mayoral post through a press conference at the city bhaban conference hall here this afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, Bulbul said he has sent his resignation letter to the Local Government ministry according to the existing electoral rule. The ministry will appoint an acting mayor for the interim period through issuing a circular in this regard.
He also said he will submit his nomination paper for contesting in the forthcoming RCC election tomorrow. On behalf of him, nomination paper has been collected.
In the 2013 RCC mayoral election, Bulbul was elected mayor. AHM Khairuzzaman Liton was his nearest rival candidate.
Meanwhile, a total of 233 candidates collected nomination papers to contest in the upcoming RCC election.
Till this afternoon, a total of 233 candidates collected nomination forms from the district election office here. Of them, six for mayoral post, 174 for general councilors and 53 for reserved seats for women.
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton from Bangladesh Awami League, Musaddique Hossain Bulbul from BNP, Washiur Rahman Dolon from Jatiya Party, Habibur Rahman from Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Shafiqul Islam from Islami Shashantantra Andolon and Advocate Monzur Murshed (Independent) collected nomination papers for mayoral post.
Forty-six of the candidates including 35 for general councilor already submitted their nomination papers.
Returning Officer Syed Amirul Islam said the candidates can submit their nomination papers to both the returning officer and assistant returning officer till June 28.
Returning Officer will scrutinize the nomination papers on July 1 and 2 and July 9 has been set as the final date for withdrawal of candidature and election symbol will be distributed among the candidates the following day.
After getting election symbol the candidates can start their formal election campaign.
