Proposed budget to open new horizon of employment for youths :
Lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 27, 2018 (BSS) – Lawmakers participating in the national
budget discussion today said that the proposed budget for 2018-19 fiscal would open
a new horizon of employment by expanding the Information Communication
Technology(ICT) and Export Processing Zone(EPZ) to generate huge employment for
the young generation.

They said the proposed budget after passage would also turn the country into a middle
income one by 2021 and a developed nation by 2041 under the leadership of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Taking part in the budget discussion, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM
Shahjahan Kamal said the proposed budget is pro-poor people as well as ensure
welfare of the middle and lower income people.

The proposed budget has promised to lower the bank interest rate to a single digit
which would expand the local and foreign investment, said the minister.

Former President Ziaur Rahman sent the killers to the Bangabandhu Bhaban for
killing the Father of the Nation, said Kamal, adding that the country would be
developed nation by 1980 if Bangabandhu was survived.
Railway Minister Muzibul Haq said the proposed budget has an opportunity of more
investment.

Country’s railway services will reach to the level of the rich nations like United
Kingdom and Japan if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina again comes to power in the
upcoming general election, the railway minister told the House.

Describing the proposed budget as praiseworthy, chief whip ASM Feroz said, the
proposed budget is six times higher than the budget of the BNP regime which was
Taka 69,000crore in 2006-07 fiscal.

The proposed budget has kept a provision of pension for non-government employees,
he said, adding so the proposed budget will do welfare of the people.

Terming the budget as significant, lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi said the proposed
budget will accelerate the progress of the country.

“We hope that the country will be a higher middle income one soon under the
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

The growth of the country will significantly rise when the construction of Dhaka –
Sylhet four-lane project would complete, said the lawmaker.

Terming the budget a pro-people, the lawmakers said the proposed budget has not
imposed new tax. The women lawmakers also urged the government to increase sports
budget particularly for women.

Leader of the opposition in the Parliament, Begum Rawshan Ershad said the
implementation of the mega budget is possible if the government take some initiatives.

The opposition leader urged the finance minister to increase the area of tax for
realization of the budget, adding that the country has 8 crore people who have ability to
pay new tax.

Treasury bench members whip Iqbalur Rahim, Amatul Kibria Keya Choudhury,
Begum Shirin Naim, Amanullah, Nurul Mazid Mahmud Humayun, Selimuddin
Tarofder, Joya Sengupta, Begum Hosneara Lutfa Dalia, Sharif Ahemd, workers party
lawmaker Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, opposition lawmaker Nurul Islam Milon, also took
part in the general discussion on budget.

On June 7, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith placed a Taka 4,645.73 billion
national budget for 2018-19 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at 7.8 percent and
detailing a set of programmes to transform the country into a role model of modern and
welfare state by 2041.

Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members who were assassinated on August
15, 1975 and all martyred during the War of Liberation in 1971.
