Bidyanondo launches ‘Mehmankhana’ for marginalized people in Old Dhaka

DHAKA, July 26, 2020 (BSS) – In the wake of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, country’s leading volunteer organization, Bidyanondo Foundation has launched a mobile mess named ‘Mehmankhana’ in old part of the capital to provide food among distressed and lower-income group people free of cost.

Since July 18, around 1500 to 2000 people have been able to eat their three-time meal for free every day at Khan Hotel which has been turned into ‘Mehmankhana’ subtitled ‘guesthouse or dining place for guests’ on Tipu Siltuna Road at Jorpool of Wari in the city, said a press release.

Hotel workers along with volunteers of Bidyanondo, which earned a huge fame in providing food aid and education to children during the Covid-19 crisis and other times, are serving foods like breads, eggs and dal (pulse) mixed with chicken to people irrespective of age and gender.

Project coordinator Salman Khan Yasin said they have a plan to launch four more Mehmankhana in the city as many people, who became jobless and distressed and low-income group, are passing their days in hardships due to the ongoing crisis triggered by the coronavirus outbreak.

“All of those who will come here will be treated as guests. We took up the initiative so that others will also get encouraged to stand by distressed people,” he said.

Yasin said the foundation will make arrangement for providing food and meal services to Muslims along with their families, who will not be able to sacrifice animals in the Eid-ul-Azha.
