DU announces Tk 869cr budget

DHAKA, Jul 23, 2020 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) authorities here today announced a Tk 869.56 crore budget for the fiscal year 2020-21 at its annual senate assembly.

DU Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Samad and DU treasurer Md Kamal Uddin placed the budget in the senate assembly held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, said a press release.

Professor Kamal also presented a Tk 845.15 crore revised budget for the 2019-20 fiscal. Last year, the Dhaka University gave a Tk 810.42 crore budget.

The University Grants Commission will provide Taka Tk748.56 (86.03%) for the budget and Tk71 crore (8.17%) will come from DU’s own sources. The budget is likely having a deficit of Tk50.5 crore (5.80%), the treasurer told the senate.

According to the sector-wise budget details of the university, 30.71% of the budget has been allocated for salaries 24.81% for allowances, 22.74% for supply and service expense, 14.38% for pension and retirement favour, 3.55% for capital grant, and 2.72% for other grants.

Senate members of the university discussed the proposed budget and other issues of DU in the meeting.

The budget for 2018-19 fiscal year was Tk741.13 crore, Tk 664.37 crore in 2017-18, and Tk 664.11 crore in 2016-17.
