KUALA LUMPUR, July 17, 2020 (BSS/XINHUA) – Qatar, hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, will stage the upcoming AFC Champions League (ACL) matches in the west region beginning from September 14, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Thursday.

According to AFC, Qatar will host the games from group stage to the semifinals from September 14 to October 3, while no host has been announced for its counterpart in the East Zone. The deadline for bids to host the ACL East region matches will be on July 24.

The remaining matches of East Asia’s group stage will be played from October 16, with the knockout stage to be played in November.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the ACL matches were disrupted in early March, with teams having played two rounds of group matches at most. It was not until last week that AFC announced plans to restart this year’s ACL matches.
