Six ‘oggyan’ party members held in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 11, 2020 (BSS) – Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP)
arrested six members of an organised gang of inter-district ‘oggyan’
party from different places of Rangpur and Gaibandha districts in
overnight raids last night.

While talking to BSS tonight, Additional Deputy Commissioner of
Police (Crime) of RpMP Shahidullah Kowsar said a group of ‘oggyan’
party members secretly entered the house of one Mizanur Rahman at
Kobaru Daktarpara area in the city on June 30 at night.

In a pre-planned manner, they mixed sedative powders with cooked
foods and subsequently, the inmates took dinner and became unconscious
when they looted money, ornaments and mobile phone sets from the house
at night.

Later, a case was filed in this connection with the Porshuram
police station of RpMP on the next day when police started
investigation.

Led by Shahidullah Kowsar, a special police squad from the
Porshuram police station first arrested leader of the gang Hafizar
Rahman, 44, from his house in village Beradanga in Gaibandha district
on Friday night.

As per confession of Hafizar, the police team arrested gang members
Moshiar Rahman Bhutto, 45, his wife Lipi Begum, 26, and Khorsed Alam,
19, from Kochutari area and Rubel Mian, 32, from New Jummapara area in
the city and Raju Mian, 30, from village Joydeb Monashpara in
Gangachara upazila of Rangpur in the early hours of today.

“We recovered looted 11 mobile phone sets, ornaments and sedative
medicines from the arrested persons,” Kowsar said, adding that they
had been committing crimes in different houses by making the inmates
unconscious in many areas for a long time.

The arrested persons were produced before a Rangpur court from
where they were sent to the jail hajat after recording confessional
statements from two of them this afternoon.
