The AL general secretary said the country’s economic and political
freedom was achieved through a long struggle under the leadership of
Awami League.

When Awami League, the symbol of independence and freedom, remains
in power, Bangladesh advances fast, he added.

Qauder said the budget for fiscal 2020-21 is a realistic document
of creating more opportunities to diversify the country’s economy and
turn the coronavirus pandemic into a new possibility.

Keeping the balance between the lives and livelihoods, the budget
was the time-befitting thoughts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to
take the country forward, he said.

On behalf of the party, the AL general secretary expressed
gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister AHM
Mustafa Kamal and others concerned for passing such a budget which
would help cope with the impacts of coronavirus pandemic.

He said the international community, the World Economic Forum, and
prestigious magazines like ‘Forbes’ and ‘The Economist’ applauded the
initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina taken to tackle
coronavirus crisis.

Quader said the budget for fiscal 2020-21 was prepared considering
the demand of the country’s health sector created due to coronavirus
outbreak and regaining the loss the country’s different economic
sectors faced amid the ongoing crisis.

He said the budget for fiscal 2020-21 was the 17th of the Awami
League government and second of its present tenure.

The road transport minister said the budget has given special
emphasis on economic reconstruction and protection of lives and
livelihoods amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Besides, he said, health and agriculture sectors, creating
employment and social security got priority in this budget.

In response to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for
implementing 19 stimulus packages to address the impacts of
coronavirus on economy, Quader said a significant number of
development partners come forward to provide budget assistance.

Meanwhile, the commitment of around US$ 5.16 billion budget
assistance came from the development partners, he said, adding that
the government has so far received about US$ 1.74 billion from its
development partners.

On June 29, 2020, Taka 5.68 lakh crore of the national budget was
passed in the House.
