DUJ protests media organisation’s oppression on journos amid COVID-19

DHAKA, June 26,2020 (BSS)- Leaders of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) have protested the actions of several media organizations, retrenching journalists and reducing their salaries illegally and forcing leave without pay in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

In a written statement today, DUJ President Quddus Afrad and General Secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu expressed deep concern over the anarchic situation prevailing in many media outlets, a DUJ press release said here today.

According to the press release, repressive acts have been carried out in several newspapers such as Kaler Kantho, New Nation, The Asian Age and Manab Zamin.

Several newspapers, including The Independent, have also stopped publishing their print versions, it added.

Considering all these issues, the DUJ leaders sought urgent step of the government to stop anarchic situation.

The DUJ leaders warned that if media owners do not immediately stop such activities, a greater unity will be forged within short time to protest their actions.
