Latvia reports no new COVID-19 cases for five days
RIGA, June 25,2020 (BSS/XINHUA) — Latvia reported no new COVID-19 cases for the fifth day in a row, the country’s Center for Disease Prevention and Control said Thursday.
Out of the 142,794 COVID-19 tests performed so far in Latvia, 1,111 infections are confirmed. Statistics show that 903 patients have recovered while 30 have died.
Eight patients, including one severe case, are currently in hospital.
Latvian Health Minister Ilze Vinkele expressed her joy over the encouraging news on Twitter, while admitting that the decision to gradually start easing the COVID-19 restrictions was not an easy one.
Latvia ended its state of emergency declared in mid-March to contain the spread of COVID-19 earlier this month, but a number of precautionary measures like physical distancing and wearing face masks on public transport remained in place.
