Govt asks Grameenphone, Robi for explanation on uploading of web series’ indecent video contents

DHAKA, June 25, 2020 (BSS)- The Information Ministry has asked for explanation from two mobile companies-Grammenphone and Robi- about uploading and publicising of uncensored and indecent video contents in the name of web series by using their platforms.

The Press Information Department (PID) has issued the letters to the chief executive officers of the two mobile companies in this regard, said an official handout here today.

In the letters, the ministry said, “It came to know that some uncensored video contents along with indecent and ugly scenes, stories and dialogues were uploaded and publicized in the name of web series by using your platforms and networks. And attention has been drawn to the government about this matter.”

The letters said, the country’s media outlets have published the issues with a negative undertone and a bad impact has been created in the society.

“The government has to know whether your organizations have any registration or licence from the government for uploading or publicizing such video contents on the web series by using your platforms and networks,” it added.

The letters also said that it is the violation of law and against the social values of the country to upload uncensored video contents along with nude and indecent scenes, stories and dialogues in the name of web series.

“Publicizing these types of uncensored, nude and indecent scenes, stories and dialogues are opposed to the laws like section 69 of Bangladesh Telecommunication (amendment) Act, 2010, sections 4 and 8 of Pornography Control Act, 2012, Digital Security Act, 2018, Penal Code 1860 and Information and Communication Technology Act, 2006. It goes against our social values to publicize these types of video contents. It is not acceptable from big organizations like yours,” the letters said.

The letters also asked the two organizations to inform the government if they have any registration or licence along with summery within the next seven days.
