Govt digitalises all scholarship programmes: Dipu Moni

DHAKA, June 22, 2020 (BSS) – Education Minister Dipu Moni today
said all scholarship programmes under her ministry have been
digitalised.

“Earlier, scholarships were offered manually and students had to
face troubles in getting the scholarship money,” she said while
inaugurating the distribution of stipend money from January to June of
fiscal 2019-20 through a virtual meeting.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dipu Moni said since the government
has initiated the online scholarship programmes, the scholarship money
would reach the student’s mobile number directly through G2P system.

As a result, she said, the students will get their money in the
shortest possible time, and both time and money of the government will
be saved.

The education minister said as a tremendous progress was made in
building Digital Bangladesh under the guidance of Prime Minister’s ICT
Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the scholarship money is being reached the
students through G2P system within the shortest possible time.

She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb
Wazed Joy to this end.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury and
Director General of the Directorate of Secondary Higher Education Prof
Dr Syed Md Golam Faruk, among others, joined the virtual meeting.

Today, about Taka 328 crore of stipend money was sent to 19,92,780
students of about 27,000 educational institutions in 492 upazilas
through G2P system (meaning the stipend money from Bangladesh Bank
will reach directly to the designated mobile account of each student).
The stipend money will reach the students’ mobile accounts by June 24
next.

At the same time, Dipu Moni inaugurated a programme for
distributing Taka 17.32 crore among 83,964 students who got
scholarships in the PEC and JSC examinations in 2019.
